Elysian Fields

I have always been intrigued by the concept of an afterlife. I am especially drawn to the ancient Greek belief that Heaven was a physical place called ‘Elysium’ or ‘The Elysian Fields’. This plays beautifully into the notion that we are of earth and to earth we shall return. In this series, I explore the ties of our mortal form to the notion of an afterlife. Starting from the premise that there is a mortal and immortal aspect to all of us, I transform the human form into the landscape of the “final destination”. Using symbolic representations of life and death, I create a visual depiction of how one is intrinsically tied to the other.
