Elysian Fields http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/elysian-fields/ http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/elysian-fields/ Since I started working with models seriously in 2006, I've been absolutely fascinated by the notion of using the human figure as an artistic medium in itself. Going beyond sculpture, painting and photography as individual means to convey an idea, emotion or feeling I sought to combine them and push my craft much further than before. Having done a few shoots in the past in this style, I can say with confidence that Elysian Fields was the one that finally brought on that sense of achievement. A culmination of my experiments so far and a first step into the next level of my visual exploration.

The model, Fie, one of my favorite people to work with was perfect for this shoot. Having already established a great trust in our working relationship, I knew I could allow myself to let go and comfortably take this step with her.

Enjoy!

Metaphysical Synapses http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/metaphysical-synapses/ http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/metaphysical-synapses/

I have always been fascinated by light, colour, form and their ability to shape and redefine each other. Macro photography has always been a great passion of mine because it allows for thorough observation and capture of one's subject. In this project I wanted to surrender myself to the process and allow the images to be born out of my movement around the subject rather than by planning my compositions ahead of time.

I started by building small structures out of glass objects on top of a mirror. Around them, I placed three round mirrors. I had initially intended to shoot more “classic” studies of the glass surfaces and how they interacted with light, but that concept was quickly dissolved by what I started to witness through my lens. The shoot became an amazingly intricate journey into the abstract. Each pull of the focus, no matter how slight, revealing new wondrous visual landscapes shaped by the reflection and refraction of light. Each minute motion redefining my subject and composition and plunging me into a new ocean of visual possibilities. The whole time I could almost feel my mind forming the synapses that were guiding me through this journey. An experience that became more abstract, surreal and introspective with each closing and opening of the shutter curtain revealing the next awe-inspiring performance of glass and light.

In the end, each photo displayed frozen glimpses of cosmic-like images. The stories they tell and questions they beg are ever changing with each pass of the eye.  I had once again witnessed the magnitude of beauty just waiting to be grasped within the most mundane objects that surround us.

Fluid & Form http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/fluid-form/ http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/fluid-form/ Erin Elizabeth is an incredible model, wonderful friend and talented artist. I've had the pleasure of working with her a few times and every time it's like pure magic. We understand eachother and always get fantastic results from our shoots.

The Fluid & Form project was the last thing I shot in Toronto before I moved to Denmark. I wanted to do something special with Erin before I left. The 12 images you see are a final selection from over 4000 photos taken over the course of two days. With the assistance of the fantastic Cristina Waltz we managed to make a huge mess in Geoff Simpson's studio.

I couldn't be happier with these shots and I hope you all enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them.

Immortal http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/immortal/ http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/immortal/ Earlier this year I had the pleasure of working with Deva - an amazing dancer who has since become a very good friend.

I wanted to capture the raw strength and beauty of her form. The recipe for this shoot was simple:

- Take one very talented dancer
- Apply paint
- Use very simple, yet dramatic lighting
- Explore

And VOILA! Magic!

New site design http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/new-site-design/ http://www.mariusbudu.com/blog/new-site-design/ Welcome to the newly re-designed mariusbudu.com!

As the primary publishing source for my art and photography, this website is something that I feel should reflect the current quality of my work. This was the main reason for the re-design. The new site has many features that make it easier for users to enjoy and share its content and I encourage you to do so.

New work: You will find new photos in the FLESH & SOUL, SURROUNDINGS and ABSTRACT sections of the site. You will also find a few new art pieces in both, the VISIONS and EXPERIMENTAL sections.
New work will be released periodically and I am sitting on quite a few projects at the moment.

Keeping updated and sharing: Please feel free to make use of the new RSS and social media sharing features. If you like my work, why not share it with others so that they may enjoy it as well?

Finally, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Catalin Stan, from the Sideways Web-Design Agency for all of his excellent work with the website's programming!

Enjoy!
